Initially, IN:SITE was contracted to evaluate various buildings for newScale, providing block plans and construction budgeting in order to determine if the space would be the right fit over a long term lease. After extensive due diligence, IN:SITE began remodeling services for the 28,000 square foot, full floor, existing high rise office space in downtown Oakland overlooking Lake Merrit. newScale’s collaborative culture required that the space accommodate team interaction, fostering the vital management link to staff. Due to uncertain growth in various departments, the space needed to be planned for maximum flexibility and use of the space. newScale desired a space that reflected their creative and positive spirit yet conveyed a sense of stability.

In order to keep the cost of construction to a minimum, the existing ceiling and lighting was maintained and wall color was used to bring graphic punch to the large, single floor space. Workstation furniture was planned in order to be used for various job descriptions and functions. Each workstation can be easily converted to be more open or more private, larger or smaller and can accommodate most any employee’s position.
In a corporate branding exercise it was determined that 5 words / phrases described newScale. IN:SITE took these words and phrases and used them as a graphic design statement. The words and phrases “Forward Thinking”, “Fun”, “Passionate”, “Trustworthy” and “Experienced” are used to convey what newScale is all about. From the moment you first step into the lobby and as you pass through the reception area and continue into the space you are aware of the company’s personality who occupies the space.
